With student and faculty safety as a top priority, we must rely on virtual instructional educational practices to keep education afloat. But as educators everywhere know, technology can be very distracting for students! So keeping students engaged in a virtual platform is often easier said than done. 

Luckily, most of the virtual teaching tools schools use include engagement-driven features such as a chat box.  It is easy to underestimate the value of the chat box since it can quickly become a distraction, but by implementing the three tips provided below, you can use the chat box to drive active learning and student engagement.
