Although some students have a choice whether or not to take the ACT, many states have made it mandatory for every high school junior to take the test. This is actually a good thing! Before, only the students who already knew they were going to college typically took the ACT. Now that it’s mandatory, students of all backgrounds are getting the chance to see how high they can score and get accepted to college. In this post, we will list all the benefits of taking the ACT.

  1. You can take the ACT for FREE in Tennessee!
Yep, it’s true. The schools pay for your registration, so this is a great opportunity if you’ve never had the chance to take it before!
  2. You can get FREE college scholarship money
You read that right. Depending on your ACT score, colleges may offer you a variety of scholarships. The only catch here is that you have to perform well. Colleges seek out students scoring above a certain range on the ACT, so do your best to get the highest score possible. For example, the HOPE Scholarship is granted to students earning 21 or higher on the ACT.
  3. Colleges want to see your scores
Many college admissions rest on a few key items: a high school diploma, a GPA, and an ACT score. Some colleges have even dropped the requirement for a GPA and simply look at the composite ACT score. Your ACT score must be at a college-ready level, so make sure you do your best!
  4. It could mean an open door to your dream job
Some jobs are beginning to ask for ACT scores from recent graduates. Why? Because they want to see how you perform under pressure. Your ACT score can tell an employer about your work ethic, how diligent you are, and how capable you are of following directions.
  5. Real world applications
It may sound like a stretch, but there’s a lot of ways you can apply the ACT to everyday life. There will always be moments of intense stress and deadlines. As you grow older, you will come across many occasions where you will need reading comprehension skills, just like those tested on the ACT. Or you may need to solve math word problems while grocery shopping. Or realize that those confusing science questions were really about understanding directions. You will find as your life goes on well past the ACT that the skills you studied for and were tested on will continue to pop up.

The ACT is an important test: it could open more doors in your life than you realize, and the best thing that you can do is study hard, do your best, and reach the highest score possible. It could make the difference in going to the college you have dreamed about, getting the job you’ve always wanted, and becoming the person you want to be.

Don’t give up.

Even if you haven’t gotten the score you wanted yet, keep working toward that score. The ACT allows retakes! In Tennessee, it’s this upcoming October 3 and 17th!
