How It Works:

Districts often feel that if they have great teachers for their core subjects who follow a scope and sequence aligned with the TEKS, then they’re guaranteed good results. But that isn’t always the case.

MasteryPrep focuses on the hidden assessed standards that appear on the STAAR EOC tests, which can get lost in translation from what teachers are teaching and what students see on test day.

Mastery for STAAR Works because it addresses two crucial areas for maximizing score gains:

TEST MASTERY:

Test-taking is a skill that can be learned just like anything else, and knowing what to expect to see on the STAAR means students walk in on test day feeling confident. In every lesson of Mastery for STAAR, students learn essential strategies that help them improve their accuracy and pick up points.

CONTENT MASTERY:

Test-taking strategies can only take students so far. In the end, students need to know key concepts outlined by the TEKS to pass their tests. Mastery for STAAR picks up where many test prep programs leave off: by providing reviews and reinforcement for the academic skills and concepts that make the biggest impact on scores.

Mastery for STAAR was designed for high school students, but many students can benefit by participating in the program as early as 8th grade. If there are students missing the benchmarks for their course, Mastery for STAAR allows for content-based remediation in the months leading up to the test.

The instructional content offers flexibility to fit the way you want to prep!

  • Is aligned to TEKS standards. Teachers can easily select the chapters that integrate well with whatever they’re already teaching in the classroom.
  • Is matched to the skills on our TruScore practice tests. This feature helps teachers evaluate students strengths and weaknesses and make data-driven decisions about what to focus on during class time.
  • Is modular and predictable. All lessons contain the same elements that can be used on their own or as a sequence, giving teachers plenty of flexibility to fit the needs of their students.
  • Includes lots of practice. Every lesson contains an entrance ticket, and exit ticket, and a practice set full of questions that look just like what they’ll see on test day.

A snapshot lesson… 

  • Is aligned to TEKS and the TruScore platform. The teacher manual provides the assessed TEKS and the TruScore node to make integration as simple and straightforward as possible. 
  • Comes in one of three flavors:
    • Instructional snapshots offer skill-building opportunities and reviews of important concepts that show up on the STAAR. 
    • Practice snapshots provide students with the chance to apply their skills to questions that are similar to what they’ll actually see on the STAAR. 
    • Strategy snapshots highlight key test-taking skills and apply them to some of the most frequently tested standards on STAAR.
  • Is succinct and modular. Teachers can utilize any snapshot and its 5-10 minutes of instructional time as individual pieces or collectively as sequences. Each snapshot is 1-2 pages in length. 
  • Offers the same add-water-and-mix preparation that MP is known for. The snapshots include zero-prep exercises, standard alignments for easy reference, learning targets, engaging hooks, and detailed teacher-facing pages that give the teacher everything they need to work through the snapshot. 
  • Is focused. Each snapshot zeros in on a facet of the assessed standard to optimize student mastery.
