MasteryPrep partners with over 2,000 schools and school districts to provide meaningful, measurable academic support that boosts standardized assessment scores without teaching to the test. Each year, MasteryPrep helps over 500,000 low-income and first-generation students improve their scores on high-stakes standardized assessments like the ACT®, Digital SAT®, and state-based assessments all at no cost to the students or their families.
MasteryPrep is licensed by ACT®, Inc. to use official test questions in its material and serves as the Council for Opportunity in Education’s preferred provider of ACT® and SAT® preparation resources.
MasteryPrep’s founder, Craig Gehring, earned perfect scores on the ACT and SAT while in high school. He started tutoring and saw firsthand that students who needed the most help were the least likely to get it. What’s more, they needed a different approach to fill the gaps and boost scores. That was the genesis of MasteryPrep: a novel, mastery-based system for improving student achievement that works for students who struggle with tests. MasteryPrep provides its programs at no cost to families by partnering with school districts and providing software, curriculum, and workshops designed to engage students and stem learning loss. What began as pilot programs at two high-poverty schools mushroomed into over one hundred school adoptions in the first year. More than ten years later, MasteryPrep serves over 500,000 low-income and first-generation students through partnerships with over 2,500 schools and school districts.

As educators, we need to ensure that all students, regardless of their background or financial situation, have access to quality test preparation materials. It’s not just about teaching to the test; it’s about providing our students with the tools they need to succeed, whether they’re aiming for college or entering the workforce directly. We’ve seen firsthand the impact of equitable access to resources like MasteryPrep, especially in high-poverty schools like ours. Every student deserves a fair shot at reaching their full potential, and it’s our responsibility to provide them with the support they need to get there.
